On-Site Consultation Program

Free Consulting Service for all Workplace Safety Needs

Under a grant from OSHA the Safety Bureau will provide, at an employer's request, a confidential comprehensive safety and health consultation at no cost. Consultations are limited to employers with less than 250 employees. Employers in high hazard industries are given priority. Phone: (406) 444-6418.

WHO CAN REQUEST A CONSULTATION

Private employers may request this service by contacting the Department of Labor and Industry. Consultations will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority granted to small business employers in high hazard industries.

PROCEDURE

The consultation is conducted in three phases:

PHASE 1: THE OPENING CONFERENCE
You will be provided with a detailed explanation of the program, your safety and health programs will be reviewed, and pertinent accident and injury records will be examined.

PHASE 2: THE WALK THROUGH
A workplace survey will be conducted with you or a designee.

PHASE 3: THE CLOSING CONFERENCE
You will discuss with the consultant the existing or potential hazards identified, and the recommendations on how to control or eliminate the identified hazards.

A complete confidential written report that summarizes the findings and suggests remedial measures for identified hazards will be provided at a later date.

EMPLOYERS OBLIGATION

You are required to immediately eliminate any imminent danger and correct any serious safety or health condition within a specified time period.

**There are no fees charged for the consultation nor are fines or penalties levied for any safety or health hazards identified during the consultation.**
