Prevailing Wage Rate Setting Process
The Department of Labor and Industry conducts an annual survey of construction and nonconstruction rates for a select number of occupations for each survey type. Rates for wages, fringe benefits, zone pay, travel pay, and per diem pay are solicited from Montana’s construction industry and from nonconstruction companies performing services for public works contracts.
Since construction rates are established through survey data, collective bargaining agreements, and established and special project rates for the previous year, it is critical that the department receives wage and other data paid to employees in this important industry.
All construction and non-construction wage rates are established yearly. The survey is open from early April through June 30th of each year.
