Susan Harwood Training
Montana Department of Labor and Industry was awarded an OSHA Susan Harwood Training Grant to provide free training to employers and workers across the state. DLI is offering 12 targeted topic trainings to educate attendees on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace. These short courses are aimed to assist high risk groups such as small businesses and young workers. Several topics are offered in both general industry and construction.

Electrical Hazards
This training provides basic level awareness training regarding electrical hazards and protective methods in the workplace.
Falls prevention/protection
Training addresses preventing falls from heights and from ladders in construction, or general industry. The training is designed to increase awareness to common fall hazards and methods to prevent injury or eliminate risk.
Hazardous Temperatures Exposure
This training addresses hazards and controls for workers exposed to heat or cold.
Health Hazards/Hazard Communication
This training addresses the identification of hazards, chemical exposure prevention, labeling, Safety Data Sheets, or other related topics included in the Hazard Communication Standard and the Globally Harmonized System of chemical labeling.
Chemical Inhalation and Absorption Hazards
This training addresses chemical inhalation and absorption hazards in the workplace, including health effects, exposure control measures through engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
Lock Out/Tag Out
This training will discuss the control of hazardous energy (Lockout/Tagout) in general industry. Training will address procedures to protect workers from unexpected energizing or startup of machinery and equipment, including the releasing of hazardous energy during servicing and maintenance.
Machine Guarding/Amputation Prevention
This training addresses the operation of stationary equipment, press brakes, saws, shears, slicers, etc., guarding points of operations, and related hazards.
Noise/Hearing Conservation
This training addresses the identification, control, and protection of workers exposed to hazardous noise in construction, maritime, or general industry.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
This training addresses the identification of hazards requiring PPE, including the selection and proper use of PPE to protect workers from exposure and injury in the workplace.
Residential Construction Hazards
The purpose of this training is to provide training on general safety and health hazards in residential construction which could include falls, electrical, hand/power tools, struck-by/caught-between, drywall dust/respiratory protection, PPE, hazard communication, ladders or scaffolds.
Respirable Crystalline Silica Hazards
This training addresses the hazards and controls for workers exposed to respirable crystalline silica with an emphasis on those who fabricate and install stone products in general industry and construction settings. The health hazards of accelerated silicosis, engineering controls to eliminate exposures, and PPE where exposures cannot be eliminated are also discussed.
Warehousing
This warehousing training addresses the operation of powered industrial trucks / forklifts, safe material and package handling, and the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders with a focus on warehouse ergonomics.
